Ethiopia’s tourism destination dev’t luringinvestors: Experts

ADDIS ABABA-The ongoing tourist destination development in Addis Ababa as well as throughout the country has been winning numerous local and multinational investors’ confidence, experts said.

Tourism Ethiopia Destination Development Directorate Director Mussa Kedir told The Ethiopian Herald that multinational investors have shown keen interest in joining investment in Ethiopia following the government’s wide-ranging efforts in developing new tourist destinations.

Currently, tourism is among the top five national economic reform areas of the government, he said adding that Ethiopia will become among the top tourist destination countries after the Covid-19 pandemic.

As to him, the investors are determined to launch a range of projects around new tourist destinations, national parks, lakes, historical places, among others.

“There is a niche market that motivates multinational investors in Ethiopia. Thus, potential investors are eager to join investment and deliver their products and services in the country and beyond,” he said.

He further said that there is a high economic return from investing around tourist destinations, and the government offers various investment packages to promote standardize service delivery for tourists.

Investors will have the opportunity to import capital goods free of taxation and enjoy tax holiday in due course of investing around tourist destinations, according to him.

“Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s (Ph.D) initiatives have been contributing a lot to the growing demand of multinational investors. The ongoing massive tourist destinations development enables Ethiopia to be included in the top preferable tourist destinations list,” he stressed.

For his part Tourism Development Expert Kaleab Belachew said the as the private sector plays a fundamental investing around tourist destinations, according to him.

“Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s (Ph.D) initiatives have been contributing a lot to the growing demand of multinational investors. The ongoing massive tourist destinations development enables Ethiopia to be included in the top preferable tourist destinations list,” he stressed.

For his part Tourism Development Expert Kaleab Belachew said the as the private sector plays a fundamental role in promoting the tourism industry, they have to do all their level best to contribute their share to the development of the nation. Besides, the new tourist destinations development should be further strengthened to create ample jobs for the youth, he added.

The government is expected to draft a workable policy framework, ensure peace and security as well as promote investors’ participation to provide the sector with sustainable growth, he said.

Unity, Sheger, and Entoto parks targeting at beautifying the city stimulate the tourism sector and motivate local and multinational investors to explore new investment areas in the country, according to him.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D) once remarked that the country has been doing its level best in the tourism sector considering the untapped potentials in the sector. Currently, the government along with state offices is exerting great effort to launch the Gorgora, Wonchi, and Koysha beautifying tourism projects.
